Available Guinea Pigs

Adoption Policy »
  1. Before applying, review the page about appropriate CAGES (click here) . It is very important to us that your guinea pig has a proper size cage!
  2. We do NOT SHIP guinea pigs. You must be able to come to us for the adoption.
  3. We do NOT ADOPT to minors. Heads-of-household only can apply to adopt. Please do not apply to adopt if you are a minor living with your parents.
  4. We do NOT ADOPT to people who have other pets living outdoors (with the exception of horses and other farm animals).
  5. Review important guinea pig DIET information: What to Feed Your Guinea Pig.
  6. We have a "pairs policy". If you own a guinea pig, we are happy to help you find a compatible friend amongst ours. If you don't own a guinea pig, you may adopt a bonded pair or create a pair from our single guinea pigs. When you don't already own a guinea pig, we highly recommend adopting one of our bonded pairs - that way you know you have a pair that gets along, and won't run the risk of them not getting along once you get them home.

Fees »

Fees as of Jan 1, 2019

  • $65 per neutered male guinea pig
  • $80 per spayed female guinea pig
  • $110 for bonded pairs (Pairs listed on the site together)
  • Unlike some other rescue groups, all of our guinea pigs are spayed/neutered and have been to a vet for a checkup prior to adoption. While the adoption fee helps to cover some of the vet costs, our expenses far exceed the adoption fees. Click Here to see why we feel that spaying/neutering our guinea pigs is so important. Not only does it control the guinea pig population, there are definite health benefits.
  • A contract must be signed at adoption time

Notice about adopting female guinea pigs:There is currently a higher demand for spayed, female guinea pigs than availability. There may be up to a two month waiting period after submitting an application. We are limited by which guinea pigs are available in the local shelters and availability of foster homes. We appreciate your patience when adopting.

    Name:Aspen
    Sex:Male
    Type: Red Agouti/American Shorthair
    Age: 2 Years , 4 Months
    Altered:Neutered
    Special Needs:YES

Hello, my name is ASPEN I have quite a long story to tell. I came to MGPR last August. I was confiscated by animal control in Walterboro South Carolina when they raided a cock fighting facility. It was very apparent from my behavior and the behavior of my friends that we were not there as pets. The shelter could not find a nearby place for us and contacted MGPR. MGPR made room for us but we needed transport up. That was a whole other terrible experience. We hitched a ride with a dog rescue that was transporting dogs up north. We were in a panel truck stacked floor to ceiling for over 12 hours with dozens of barking dogs. It was awful for us little guinea pigs. So, we arrived in the wee small hours of the morning and thought everything was going to be great. Some of my friends were able to settle down right away. A few of us took longer and a few others remain scaredy pigs.

I went to a nice foster home and things seemed to be going well for me, but something happened that kind of put me off my food. After a dental and a lot of attention it was discovered that I had developed a true hate for the pellets the rescue uses. They have put me on an alternative pellet and I am doing great these days. My weight is up, and I am a sweet happy cuddle bug. I love to be held and I love my foster mom, but I have been in rescue almost a year now I am ready for a friend and a home of my own. If you adopt me, you will need to check my weight each week. No kidding every single week, and you will need to feed me a pellet called Selective. It is available on Amazon Prime for $16.09 or It is available from Petco for $9.69 with free shipping if you sign up for auto delivery. It is very possible that I will at some point need another dental. My teeth tip in a bit more than most guinea pigs creating a situation that would allow my teeth to over grow more quickly than most if something happens to put me off my food again.

That is my story in all it is glory. Is there a place in your heart and home for me? I will be waiting for you.

    Age: 3 Years , 6 Months
    Altered:Spayed

Hello, What do you think about my name. The first minute that the person at MGPR looked at me she said aren't you a cutie pie and that was all the thinking that needed to be done about a name for me. I'm a very social little lady. I've been living alone but I'd like a friend I think. I need a human too. My human was deployed and his family couldn't keep me. I was obviously very spoiled and loved by him so a really super devoted human is on my wish list too.

    Name:Bren
    Sex:Male
    Type: White / Gray Points/Himalayan
    Age: 11 Months
    Altered:Neutered

Hi - I'm Bren. I'm a friendly little tyke, but sometimes I'm still a little skittish. I've been through a lot as I was originally in Wisconsin. I'm adjusting now and just need a nice girlfriend and a human to love me.

I'm just learning how nice it is to cuddle up with a human and some curley greens and other veggies. When you rub my comfort spot (hint, it's behind my ears) I'll close my eyes and go to my happy place. I'm still pretty shy. I think I need a best friend.

  •

    Name:Knuckle
    Sex:Male
    Type: Black/American Shorthair
    Age: 1 Year , 1 Month
    Altered:Neutered

My name is Knuckle and I've come all the way from Wisconsin to MGPR! Now I'm ready to find a forever home and my own family and guinea pig friend(s) to love!

I love snuggling and petting. I don't mind being picked up or held and I'll melt in your lap if you pet me. I'm shy in my cage and I'm startled by unfamiliar noises, so you need to make sure I don't fly off your couch or the vet's exam table. I'm getting interested in "floor time" and have started to explore. I'm also getting more talkative. I'd like to find a nice guinea pig girl to be my friend and cuddle up with me in a fleece tunnel, my favorite kind of hidey-place. I'm more active and more confident when I get to visit with other pigs.

My foster mom wants you to know that this "pigture" of me doesn't do me justice. She says I'm like the blackest ink. She says my fur is "so dense that light cannot escape from it." That's silly...my eyes sparkle and my fur shimmers a little in the light! My nails are pure black too, so if you adopt me please be sure to ask MGPR about how to trim them.
